Why patients from Gungahlin choose us

A specialist orthodontist — not a general dentist

Dr Thomas Ethell has completed three additional years of full-time postgraduate orthodontic training and is an Australian Orthodontic Board–certified specialist orthodontist. Australia has roughly 600 registered specialist orthodontists. Tom sees patients travelling in from Gungahlin personally, with the support of the wider clinical team.

Every treatment option, on the table

Traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, Iconix champagne, clear aligners (eg. Invisalign, Angel), early-treatment plates, and retainers. Come in for a consult and we'll walk through every pathway open to you and quote the exact cost.

Built around your life, not the appliance

Appointments are scheduled around school and work where possible. Most adjustments take 15 to 20 minutes. Modern brackets and aligner systems mean fewer visits and longer intervals between them.

Payment plans built for families

Following an initial deposit (from $1,500 on comprehensive cases), we offer interest-free fortnightly payment plans typically over 24 months. If another family member is in or has had comprehensive treatment with us, you receive a flat 5% sibling discount on whatever treatment you need. Terms apply: the discount can't be combined with other offers and is confirmed at your consultation. We provide a receipt for you to claim through your private health fund.

FAQs · Gungahlin

Questions we hear most.

Is it worth driving from Gungahlin to Phillip for orthodontics?+

That's your call to make, and it depends on what you want from treatment. What the drive buys you is a specialist orthodontist planning and carrying out the treatment personally, every appliance option on the table rather than one system, and an on-site lab. In practice most patients are only in the chair every 8 to 10 weeks, so it's a handful of trips a year.

At what age should my child be assessed?+

The Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic check at age seven, once the first adult molars and incisors have come through. Most children that age don't need treatment — roughly 80% of our age-seven consultations end with a plan to monitor at six-monthly reviews. The small number who do need early intervention benefit significantly from it.

Can we book appointments outside school hours?+

We schedule around school and work where possible, and we're open Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm and Friday mornings. Tell reception you're travelling from Gungahlin when you book and we'll do what we can with timing, including grouping siblings into one visit.

Do you treat adults as well as children and teenagers?+

Yes. Adult orthodontics is a substantial part of the practice — clear aligners, ceramic braces, and metal braces are all available, and the biology that moves teeth works the same way at 45 as it does at 15. Individual results vary from case to case.
