Orthodontics Canberra is the specialist orthodontic practice of Dr Thomas Ethell, serving Canberra and the surrounding ACT region from our rooms in Phillip. Tom leads every patient's care personally, with the support of the wider clinical team.
Specialist orthodontists are dentists who've completed an additional three years of full-time university training in orthodontics — the diagnosis and treatment of tooth and jaw alignment. There are roughly 600 specialist orthodontists in Australia. Anyone with a dental degree can prescribe braces or aligners. Only an Australian registered specialist has the depth of training to plan complex cases reliably and treat routine cases efficiently.
Every plan starts with an hour-long appointment with Dr Tom — all photos and x-rays, an examination, and a walk-through of every reasonable treatment option open to you, including the option of doing nothing. We quote a fixed total cost and a clear timeline. We don't upsell, we don't push aligners over braces (or vice versa) for commercial reasons, and we tell you honestly when a different practice is a better fit.
Our rooms are at Unit 11/12, Level 1, 48 Corinna Street in Phillip — central to Woden, Weston Creek, Tuggeranong, and the inner south of Canberra. Same-week consultations available for new patients. We provide a receipt after each appointment for you to claim through your private health fund.
Dr Ethell is a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists, the Australian Dental Association, and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is an Australian Orthodontic Board–certified specialist orthodontist, and in 2023 received the Australian Society of Orthodontists award for best treated case.
